Small space? Go BIG!

Did you know that using a few large pieces of furniture in a small room can actually make it feel more spacious?  It’s true!  Filling a small room with lots of little furniture can make the space feel confusing and overfilled.  But a couple of well chosen pieces – like the sectional sofa and coffee table shown in the photo – can define the room’s function without cluttering the visual space.

Nature’s Touch

Are you looking for a fun no-cost outing to enjoy with your young children?  How about an afternoon of pinecone gathering?  Having a fresh bag of pinecones on hand is a must for fall and winter decorating. Pinecones add an earthy natural touch to your home’s décor, and can be found in a variety of sizes and shapes. Best of all, they’re so easy to decorate with!  Add pinecones to your holiday centerpieces, use them as place card holders, and display them in bunches on your fireplace mantle. With a little imagination the possibilities are endless!  So bundle up your kids, give them a paper bag, and head to the nearest patch of pine. Then let your imagination take it from there!

Baby it’s cold outside!

Don’t let the cold winter months slow down your in-home projects. Winter is the perfect time to get organized. Why not clean out your drawers, cabinets, and closets? Donate any unwanted sweaters, sweatshirts and outdoor winter wear to your favorite charity. Now is the time when they’re really needed.

Stretch Your Pumpkin Buck

I feel the more pumpkins the better when it comes to decorating my yard in the fall.  But buying large sized pumpkins can get expensive, especially if you want more then just a couple.  Instead, I purchase a whole bunch of cute little pumpkins.  Lots of small pumpkins (priced at $2.00 or so)  tucked throughout your front lawn have way more impact then just your average jack-o-lantern on the porch.  They make your whole yard look like a mini pumpkin patch!

Anytime Decor

Now is the time to pick up leaf-like accessories to display throughout your home year round. Look for colors like green, wine and cream which can easily blend into any decor anytime. I use these cute little bowls around my home for coins, jewelry, and even as a soap dish. Don’t wait until the fall season is in full swing…. Pick up these versatile goodies before they’re gone for another year!

Hi Hi Birdie!

Now that the cold weather is breaking for milder temps our fine feathered friends are beginning to arrive home.  Give the birds some TLC after their long journey by cleaning and filling your birdbath, stocking your feeders with fresh seed, and hanging a tasty suet block to refuel their spent calories.

Care free candle light

Getting ready to host a holiday party? Add flame-less candle pillars and tea lights to your shopping list.  These battery operated candles come in many colors and sizes, and flicker just like real candles when turned on.  Best of all, there is no melting wax, no dirty soot, and no fire hazard… So you can toast to a Merry Christmas care free!

Stay Ahead of the Holiday Hustle

After Thanksgiving the holiday hustle will be in full swing.  This year, stay ahead of the Christmas countdown by making out your holiday greeting cards now.  Purchase a box of cards ASAP, fill in your season’s greetings, address the envelopes, and store them in a visible place to mail in December.  You can even pick up your favorite holiday stamps before the post office sells out!  Getting a head start on this once a year project gives you more time to write the perfect holiday message to everyone on your Christmas list.

Embrace the weeds!

Stop fighting those rhubarb-like weeds in your garden.  Instead, snip a few of the large leaves to use in floral arrangements.  They appear almost tropical and look interesting all on their own.  Here I used three leafs in an old galvanized oil can to make a simple centerpiece for my patio coffee table.  Since they grow like weeds, you’ll have a never ending supply!
