When the wait is too great
Sometimes people just can’t put their lives on hold waiting for their for-sale home to sell. They may need to move right away to start a new job, or want to begin their retirement as soon as possible. In my business as a home stager, I’m often hired by people in these trying situations. People who are stressed by their long stint on the real estate market, and have turned to the art of home staging to help sell their homes. Such is the case with one of my favorite clients who had moved out of their home in Elkhorn Wisconsin. Despite their home not selling, they went ahead with their plans to move to the east coast, and contacted Perfect Place Home Staging to prepare their vacant Wisconsin home to sell.
At first sight the home appeared big and bright. Lots of windows looking out over a beautiful lake and plenty of room for family and friends. But unfortunately, big isn’t always so great when a home is empty. Sure it looked large, but it FELT cold and abandoned. With no furniture or accents in the great room, it was hard for buyers to connect with the space and it also gave them a clear view of the worn out carpeting and outdated fixtures.
Understanding that most people only see a space as it is and not as it could be, I designed a home staging plan to highlight the home’s best features and make it feel warm and inviting. All the walls were freshly painted, including a new gold accent wall to highlight the great room’s high ceilings. New wood laminate floors replaced the tired carpeting and a wood mantel was added to the fireplace. Appropriate scale furniture was sourced for staging and colorful contemporary drapery panels were added to soften the hard lines of the windows. Lastly, eye-catching artwork, lamps and greenery were added and the once vacant house was completely staged to sell. It now showed beautifully and felt like the hot lake front property it was truly meant to be!
Shortly after my staging was complete, the home sold for top dollar and is now a lucky family’s vacation home. As for my happy clients, they no longer have the burden of carrying two mortgages and can enjoy their retirement stress free. This whole experience was made possible by the power of home staging!
